Johnson Controls has formed a joint venture with a unit of electric utility and renewable energy developer Consolidated Edison to market its battery energy storage systems in the US.

The agreement calls for New York-based Consolidated Edison Solutions to become the majority owner and operating partner of the joint venture.

Johnson, formerly a US company now headquartered in Ireland, will participate as a minority owner and will contribute the intellectual property that it has developed for battery management systems and controls.
