Alberta is making no changes to its upcoming 700MW renewables tenders, despite the Canadian province’s extraordinary decision last week to pull out of the federal climate plan.

“The federal climate plan is not tied to Alberta’s Renewable Electricity Program and will not impact Rounds 2 and 3 of the REP,” a spokesperson for provincial grid operator AESO tells Recharge.

A decision last week by a Canadian appeals court to block the Trans Mountain oil pipeline expansion project was too much even for Alberta’s left-leaning Premier Rachel Notley to swallow, leading her to yank the province out of the pan-Canadian climate plan – in a blow to the country’s climate-change efforts.
