Renewables-friendly Australian states have refused to sign-off the flagship climate and energy policy of the country’s federal government, claiming the proposed National Energy Guarantee (NEG) would set “ineffectual” emissions targets and fail to spur investment in wind and solar through the next decade.
The states of Victoria and Queensland, along with the Australian Commonwealth Territory, withheld support for the NEG in its current form at a meeting to debate the policy.
