South Africa will in November launch a new 1.8GW bidding round under its renewables procurement programme, the country’s energy minister said.

Jeff Radebe said the bidding window BW5 under the REIPPPP renewables scheme would mirror the so-called ‘expedited’ round that was left in limbo when the rolling procurement programme ground to a halt in 2016 amid a policy impasse with state utility Eskom.
