China topped global renewables rankings for the third time in a row while the US and Germany have moved into second and third place, overtaking India which dropped to fourth position, according to Ernst & Young’s latest renewables attractiveness index.

EY identifies a trend for rising protectionism across the renewables sector. It points out that India’s 2022 solar power target looks increasingly over-ambitious amid investor concerns in response to the threat of a tariff on imported solar panels, as well as unsustainably low power bids.
