A subsidiary of BP Wind Energy has signed an agreement with Tesla to purchase a 212kWh battery for use at its 25MW Titan I wind farm in South Dakota.

BP did not disclose financial details of the transaction, which is the first of its kind for the company’s wind business in the US.

Tesla’s rechargeable utility-scale lithium-ion battery, whose brand name is Powerpack, can be used for backup power, frequency regulation, load shifting, peak shaving and voltage control.
