Canadian Solar has acquired the 97.6MW Cafayete project in Argentina for an undisclosed amount, signalling the entry of the PV giant to the fledgling South American nation's renewable energy market.
The Cafayete project was contracted in 2016 in round 1.5 of RenovAr, the country’s renewable energy tendering programme. Although Canadian Solar did actually bid – without success – in round 2 last year, it had stayed out of rounds 1 and 1.5.
