The relatively cloudy city-state of Berlin added most new solar capacity in a reviving German market last year if measured per square kilometre, according to renewable energy agency AEE.

While only 10.3MW in total was added in Berlin, that was equivalent to 11.6kW per square kilometre and so the highest addition figure on a per-area basis.

With 405MW, most new solar capacity again was added in the relatively sunny, southern state of Bavaria, but that only corresponded to a less dense 5.7kW
