First Solar will build a giant “solar-fueled battery” in the US desert southwest for Arizona Public Service (APS), linking a 50MW battery system and a 65MW PV plant to provide electricity for the utility during its peak demand hours in the early evening.
The project, due on line in 2021, was proposed in response to APS’s request for peaking capacity resources.
