Italian utility Enel and Swiss-based group Seedstars World have awarded the inaugural Africa Energy Prize to Kenyan start-up SolarFreeze for its PV-powered cold storage units for off-grid smallholder farmers and traders in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The prize, awarded on the last day of the Renewable Energy in East-Africa: New Frontiers conference organised by RES4Africa in Nairobi, comes with a three-month “acceleration” programme valued at $50,000.
