The European Parliament has backed a 2030 EU renewable energy target of 35%, well above the 27% on the table from the European Commission and national energy ministers.
The vote – which was immediately welcomed by European renewables bodies – sets up intense three-way negotiations between the MEPs who backed the tougher goal, the Commission and the EU’s member states.
