Abdul Latif Jameel Energy subsidiary Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV) has landed a deal to build a solar-wind plant in Chile, marking the start to the Dubai-headquartered parent company’s first hybrid renewables development.

The as-yet-unnamed project – to be built “between the central and northern part” of the South American country, but for which a specific development site has yet to finalised – will produce some 540GWh a year, enough to power almost 225,000 homes in the region and reduce CO2 emissions by over 221 tonnes per year.
