French President Emmanuel Macron said there will be no rapid decisions on the future of the country’s nuclear fleet, as he defended the controversial energy source’s value as a low-carbon generator in conjunction with renewables.

Macron has backed the expansion of renewables and introduced a law to ban new oil and gas exploration since his election in May, but has made no promises over abiding by a target set by his predecessor Francois Hollande to cut nuclear’s share of the power mix to 50% by 2025, from 75% now.
