The European Commission has decided to put an improved 30% 2030 renewables target up for debate in the EU parliament, following a rethink prompted by the recent rapid fall in renewable energy prices.
Maros Sefcovic, the European commissioner for energy union, says that the EC’s initial proposal of an “at least 27%” renewables target has now been increased to 30% following an update to its long-term energy projections.
