Profits from the renewables business at German utility E.ON fell in the first nine months of 2017 as higher wind output in the US couldn’t compensate for the adverse effect of unfavourable wind conditions in the UK, and due to the absence of an offshore wind book-gain recorded in the prior-year period.

Onshore wind and solar nine-month sales actually rose to €691m ($801m) from €567m in the year-earlier period, mostly due to higher output resulting from the commissioning of the Colbeck’s Corner wind farm in the US in May 2016, and higher prices in Italy and the US.
