The easiest and most cost-effective way for California to meet its binding 2030 emissions target would be plugging 30GW of new renewables into its grid while continuing to boost the electrification of the broader economy, utility Southern California Edison has concluded.

SCE, which supplies power to 15 million people across the Golden State’s southern region, this week published a white paper analysing various options for meeting California’s challenging target to slash its greenhouse gases 40% by 2030 on 1990 levels – and 80% by 2050.
