Renewable energy accounted for two-thirds of all new generating capacity installed globally last year, and will grow at twice the rate of coal and gas combined over the next five years, thanks largely to the meteoric growth of solar, says the International Energy Agency (IEA).

The world installed 165GW of renewables last year, dominated by solar PV and wind, and is on track to add another 920GW by 2022 under even a modest growth scenario, the Paris-based IEA says in its Renewables 2017 report published Wednesday.
