ABB to acquire GE Industrial Solutions for $2.6bn

Switzerland’s ABB has agreed to acquire GE Industrial Solutions, maker of circuit breakers, switchgear and other components for electricity infrastructure projects, in a $2.6bn deal that that will strengthen ABB’s position in the North American power-equipment market.

While Industrial Solutions is part of GE’s Energy Connections & Lighting division, and is not directly linked to GE Renewable Energy, the two overlap and interact significantly within the broader electricity market, as transmission becomes increasingly important to the renewables story.
