The surcharge to finance the expansion of renewables (EEG surcharge) in Germany is likely to fall next year due to expected higher wholesale power prices and large reserve funds in the surcharge account, the Agora Energiewende think-tank predicts.

The EEG surcharge according to a calculation tool developed by Agora and the Öko-Institut in Freiburg will fall to €0.0674 ($0.08) per kilowatt hour of electricity in 2018, down from the €0.0688/kWh
