The European Commission looks set to approve new minimum import prices on Chinese-made solar cells and modules, in a move that will keep the price of solar panels in Europe up to 30% artificially higher for another year — despite the fact that only one of the 28 EU nations voted in favour of the proposal.

Under the Minimum Import Price (MIP) scheme — the result of a deal struck between the EC and Chinese manufacturers in 2013 as an alternative to anti-dumping and anti-subsidy duties — Chinese-made modules must currently be imported at a minimum price of €0.46
