German utility E.ON has started building its Texas Waves power storage project with a total capacity rating of 20MW on the sites of the existing Pyron and Inadale wind farms in West Texas.
The storage plant will be able to react quickly for the grid operator, Electric Reliability Council of Texas (Ercot), to cope with changes in the energy requirements and thereby increase both the reliability and efficiency of the system.
