Commitment by governments after the Paris climate deal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, falling prices and easier access to finance will lead to an almost doubling of renewable capacity in the next ten years, but coal is to remain the dominant fuel in the global power mix, BMI Research says in a note.

“We expect non-hydro renewables capacity to almost double between 2016 and 2026, totalling more than 1,700GW by the end of our forecast period,” the analysts write.
