Sub-Saharan Africa will remain “the global underperformer” of renewables due to the lack of bankable projects in a region that otherwise offers strong potential for development, according to BMI Research.

The research group says in a note that sub-standard grid infrastructure, difficulties accessing finance and financially insecure off-takers contribute to a dearth of regional projects suitable for commercial and institutional investors.
