A “dramatic” growth in electric vehicles could raise the UK’s peak power demand by up to 18GW by 2050, according to network operator National Grid.
The transmission system operator (TSO) said with electric cars expected to account for 90% by the mid-century, the shift from fossil to electrically-powered transport has big implications for the British power system as it shifts to renewables and low-carbon generation.
