Southern Power has begun working with Finland’s Wärtsilä to offer US municipal utilities and corporate electricity consumers the option of buying “baseload renewables” – or a mix of 70% or so wind and solar backed up by flexible gas generation.

Southern Power – the competitive generation arm of Atlanta-based utility giant Southern Company – has rapidly transformed into one of the most important players in US renewables over the past few years, adding 900MW of operational wind in 2016.
