Global oil giants ExxonMobil, Royal Dutch Shell, BP and Total, and seven other large companies including General Motors threw their support behind a proposed US federal tax on carbon to help slow global warming.
The move comes 20 days after President Donald Trump announced he is pulling the US out of the landmark 195-nation Paris agreement to combat climate change.
