The decision of US President Donald Trump to renege on the Paris climate change agreement – an accord that even oil majors got behind- could offer an “unprecedented opportunity” for China to take on a leading role in energy affairs, according to analysts.
Trump announced Thursday that the US will pull out of the 2015 Paris pact by initiating a multi-year withdrawal process, meaning the process would be completed in 2020, just in time for the next presidential election in the country.
