Push for emergency US tariffs on solar imports gains steam

The US has formally notified the World Trade Organization that is considering slapping “safeguard” tariffs on solar imports at the behest of Suniva and SolarWorld Americas, in a case with big implications for the broader electricity market, including wind.

Last month bankrupt US solar manufacturer Suniva requested that the US impose a minimum import price on all crystalline silicon (c-Si) cells and modules imported into the US.
