The industrial giant says the new centre, in Van Buren Township, about 25 miles from Detroit, will employ up to 1,100 people in the next few years.

The centre will house scientists and engineers working on “next generation manufacturing technologies” for GE’s renewable energy, aircraft engine, gas turbine and other high-technology products. Specifically, GE says, they will focus on development of composites, machining, inspection, casting and coating technologies.
