Narec has applied for a development permit for the 100MW Blyth Offshore Wind Demonstration Site (BOWDS), which will have 15 pre-consented “pods” arranged in three arrays in water depths ranging from 38 metres to 57 metres.
The test facility is expected to cost £333m ($523m).
“The turbines to be installed will be fleet leaders, a Formula 1 class of offshore machines, and the site will provide the catalyst for taking these next generation technologies through to full production,” says Narec chief executive Andrew Mill.
