Aurecon has been appointed to provide engineering services for three projects being built under the third round of South Africa’s renewable energy programme.
The Australia and South Africa-based engineer will carry out design work for Mulilo Renewable Energy's 75MW Sonnedix and Prieska PV projects.
Aurecon, which was appointed by the EPC contractors Juwi and SunPower, will provide detailed design services for the substations, grid connections and associated overhead lines for the two projects, located near Prieska in the Northern Cape.
Financial close is anticipated for June 2014, when construction of the two solar facilities will commence and be completed towards the end of 2015.
Aurecon was also appointed by Danish wind group Vestas to conduct a detailed geotechnical investigation and preliminary roads design for the 87MW Nojoli Wind farm in the Eastern Cape.
That project is being developed by the African Infrastructure Investment Management (AIIM) group with investment from Enel of Italy.
Financial close is expected in mid-2014 when construction will commence.
