Juwi wins 86MW SA PV EPC

'How did we reach the point where it could soon make more economic sense to farm batteries than sheep?

Renewables specialist Juwi has won a contract as preferred EPC contractor for the 86MW Mulilo Sonnedix Prieska PV park in South Africa’s Northern Cape region.

It is the largest single solar project in the Wörrstadt, Germany based company’s history.

Sonnedix competed in the South African Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Programme (REIPPP) and was named preferred bidder for the project, which has South Africa’s Mulilo as co-developer.

Financial close is targeted by July 2014, with construction work starting shortly thereafter, and commercial operation planned for the second half of 2015.

After the collapse of ground-based solar projects in Germany following harsh cuts to German PV feed-in tariffs last year, Juwi has downsized solar activities in its German home market and is expanding its overseas EPC activities.
