Martifer sees strong UK solar market

Martifer Solar has predicted a continued boom in large-scale solar in the UK, brushing aside concerns that the recent resolution to the EU-China may undercut future demand by effectively implementing a price floor for modules.

Martifer, which entered the UK in 2011 as a developer and EPC contractor, recently sold nearly 30MW of capacity to Lightsource Renewable Energy, and it intends to build and sell another 50MW by the end of the year.

“[The UK] is becoming a truly high potential country for this industry, unlike much of Europe, where the solar market is already mature,” says João Cunha, Martifer Solar’s UK country manager.

The additional capacity which Martifer intends to commission by the end of the year will be spread across southern Britain, with an average project size of 10MW.
