Israel is emerging as a solar hotspot

Engineering and construction specialist M+W Group says it has been hired to build Israel’s largest PV project – a 55MW plant 100km south of Tel Aviv.

The project in the Negev desert near Moshav Ohad will see 180,000 modules installed at the site over the next 18 months.

The engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract was awarded to Stuttgart, Germany-based M+W by Enlight Renewable Energy, one of Israel’s most active developers.

The deal also includes commissioning and maintenance, says M+W, which does not specify whose modules will be used at the array.

The project expects to generate about 118GWh annually, feeding it into the grid of Israel Electric Corporation (IEC) via a purpose-built substation.
