Conergy PV powers Tunisian desalination

Conergy has started installing 900 of its PowerPlus modules at a groundwater desalination plant in Tunisia, as the German PV group continues its aggressive expansion into emerging solar markets.

The 210kW system – the second-largest in Tunisia – will be finished next month, and is expected to cover 70% of the power needs of the recently completed 1.8 million-litres-per-day desalination plant.

It was financed by the Japanese government as a gift to Tunisia. Conergy won the job as a sub-contractor for Japan’s Takaoka Engineering, with its French and Italian project teams working together on the project.

The plant is located in the desert region near Medinine, near the resort island of Djerba, in southeastern Tunisia.
