France pushes PV sector reinvention

Two key French ministers discussed near- and longer-term challenges with several dozen PV industry figures this week, as the government of President Francois Hollande continues trying to right France’s listing PV sector.

Arnaud Montebourg, minister of industrial renewal, and Delphine Batho, minister for ecology, sustainable development and energy, met with industry leaders to thrash out immediate obstacles like grid-connection procedures, as well as the rules governing upcoming solar tenders.

In January the Hollande government launched “emergency” measures to resuscitate the sector, which had been left on the ropes by Chinese competitors and the previous government’s decision to cap installations at 500MW per year.

Among the measures announced, the new government doubled France's 2013 solar target to 1GW.
