Scatec was awarded the project under the first renewablestender held by the South African government in December 2011.
Power from Kalkbult will be sold to state utility Eskomunder a 20-year agreement.
The company said it began work on the plant immediatelyafter reaching financial close last November.
Scatec has been awarded three projects totalling 190MWunder the renewables programme.
Construction of the next two plants, near Hanover in the Northern Cape and Burgersdorp in the Eastern Cape, is expected to be complete bymid-2014.
