Spain’s Abengoa and Israeli infrastructure group Shikun & Binui have closed the finance needed to build a $1bn, 110MW solar-thermal plant at Ashalim in the Negev Desert – one of two major projects moving forward in the area.

Mexico can source more than one-fifth of its total energy from modern renewables by 2030 – up from 4% currently – by ensuring the right regulations and power lines are in place, according to the International Renewable Energy Agency.
