Trina connects 24MW in UK

Trina Solar has connected 23.8MW of solar to the grid at two sites in the UK, underscoring its growing focus on downstream project development.

Construction finished on schedule in Dorset and Cornwall in March, said the world’s second-largest PV module supplier. It did not reveal how much it invested in the two sites.

The Changzhou-based company is eager to expand its downstream presence in the UK and elsewhere in Europe, chief executive Jifan Gao said. "We will continue to build our project pipeline in the UK in the quarters ahead as we execute our global downstream strategy.”

In March, Trina sold a 50MW solar project in China, its first such deal. It expects to connect 400MW-500MW of PV capacity in the country this year.

Most major Chinese PV makers, including Yingli, Canadian Solar and JinkoSolar, have rapidly diversified into project development in recent years.
