Zhou Weiping quits as Suntech CEO

The CEO of Suntech Power Holdings – the rump of the once-mighty Chinese PV manufacturing group – has quit for “personal reasons”.

Zhou Weiping resigned as interim CEO, chief financial officer and president with immediate effect, said a statement.

Suntech gave Zhou the CEO role on an interim basis when previous incumbent David King left the company in September.

Suntech Power Holdings is the subject of insolvency proceedings in the Cayman Islands.

Its former main manufacturing arm in China, Wuxi Suntech, is being acquired by Chinese PV group Shunfeng.

A statement from Suntech Power Holdings said:  “Suntech plans to announce new management pending final review by Suntech's board of directors and Joint Provisional Liquidators.”
