PV big-boys tighten grip in Q1

The world’s top 20 PV panel manufacturers tightened their grip on the global industry in the first quarter of 2013, accounting for roughly 70% of shipments, up from 58% during the same period a year earlier, said analyst NPD Solarbuzz.

The global segment’s top module-makers, most of them Chinese players, are reaping the benefits of ongoing consolidation, an analyst from the research firm said.

Leading Chinese manufacturers such as Yingli Green Energy, Trina Solar, Renesola, Canadian Solar and Jinko Solar have claimed 41% of global panel shipments over the last four quarters.

In addition, Chinese panel makers that initially focused on PV cell production, including Hareon Solar and JA Solar, have been accounting for a growing portion of quarterly panel shipments around the world.
