Suntech confirms Bank of China litigation

Suntech has confirmed that it is facing the prospect of legal action from one of its creditors, Bank of China.

Reports surfaced yesterday that the bank is planning to sue the beleaguered Chinese PV equipment group following talks over debt restructuring.

Today a Suntech spokesperson told Recharge: “Suntech is aware of the litigation and we intend to resolve it amicably.”

Suntech, which had debts of $2.2bn as of March last year, has a looming deadline to refinance a $541m bond.

The company is also at odds with its founder,  Shi Zhengrong, over his ousting as chair of the board earlier this week.
