Best known for its giant dam, CTG is now diversifying

China Three Gorges’ 600MW deal with PV panel supplier Jinko last week suggests the secretive developer has big ambitions in the solar sector.

According to Jinko, the panels will be installed in utility-scale solar power plants in western China, typically provinces like Qinghai, Gansu and Xinjiang, where the industry is developing rapidly.

Jinko says it will start delivering panels from the second quarter of this year, and expects to ship 200MW per year until 2015.

Three Gorges is better known for its massive dam of the same name and its growing portfolio of wind farms. But the new contract shows it is making an aggressive push into solar too.
