IN DEPTH: Tariff fears boost polysilicon prices

Prices for polysilicon, the key raw material in solar panels, are rising over fears that China will soon impose dumping duties on imports.

China is expected to announce its preliminary determination on alleged dumping by US, South Korean and European producers on 20 February and may issue tariffs as high as 54%, say reports.

Companies may be keen to purchase polysilicon before tariffs push up prices, say analysts.

Average spot prices have edged up to $16.38 per kg this week, compared with a record low of $15.83 in late December, says Wang Xiaoting, analyst at Bloomberg Energy Finance in Beijing.
