ReneSola in 420MW Japan PV order

Chinese PV manufacturer ReneSola has announced a 420MW module supply deal in Japan.

ReneSola said the deal with an unnamed “leading project developer” will see its Virtus II 300W modules installed in more than 10 ground-mount plants in mountainous areas of the country.

The plants will provide power to residential customers. Module delivery will begin this month with shipments continuing until December next year.

The big Japanese order is a boost to ReneSola, which saw its share price hit in December after it announced a costly retreat from its polysilicon production operations in China.

Historically a wafer specialist, ReneSola has successfully expanded into module production in recent years, and its brand has gained significant traction in markets like the US.

ReneSola expects to ship around 3GW of PV kit in 2013, more than half of it modules.

Xianshou Li, chief executive of ReneSola said: "We are pleased that this project enables us to grow our presence in Japan, one of our target markets.”
