Hanergy targets downstream growth

Beijing-based Hanergy has started a global push to find new opportunities for its thin-film PV products in the downstream solar market.

The Chinese company’s new Hanergy Global Solar Power and Applications Group will target areas including integrating thin-film into building materials, rooftop and ground-mounted arrays, and flexible modules for consumer products.

Hanergy will run the new unit through six offices in Europe and the Middle East, North and South America, Africa, and the China/Asia-Pacific region.

Hanergy, which started life as a dam-builder and hydropower developer, has driven hard into thin-film PV via the acquisitions of two copper indium gallium selenide (CIGS) specialists – US-based MiaSole and Germany’s Solibro.
