Marubeni secures first PV EPC

Conglomerate Marubeni has secured its first solar EPC contract for a 2MW PV plant in Okinawa, southern Japan.

It will work with a unit of Japan’s Orion Breweries, which plans to develop 4.7MW of solar at three sites in Okinawa. Marubeni expects the 2MW site to become operational by next March.

It did not disclose the terms of the deal or a PV panel supplier.

A spokesperson for Tokyo-based Marubeni told Recharge that the company initially plans to expand its EPC operations in Japan. However, it will consider solar EPC projects in other countries if it identifies opportunities.

In May, Marubeni unveiled plans to develop a 49MW solar project on reclaimed land near the city of Nagoya, at a cost of ¥‎16bn ($162m).
