REC to equip Singapore PV plants

REC will supply PV modules for two rooftop solar plants in Singapore in the coming months, one of which will be the city-state’s largest installation yet at 1.2MW.

The Norwegian manufacturer will deliver 4,700 PV panels for the 1.2MW rooftop array at a facility owned by supermarket chain Sheng Siong.

The Singapore unit of Phoenix Solar is providing EPC services and will complete the project by the end of this year.

REC will also supply about 0.9MW-worth of PV modules for a rooftop installation at the Singapore Sports Hub, a leisure complex that is currently under construction. The project will be completed at some point in early 2014, REC said in a statement.

“Both the projects are illustrative of a wider trend  in Singapore to large-scale rooftop” installations, Phoenix Solar managing director Christophe Inglin said. “With land at a premium in the city-state, rooftop systems are the location of choice.”

REC is ideally positioned to serve the Southeast Asian solar market, with a module production plant in Singapore. The company expects the city-state’s PV capacity to double to roughly 20MW by the end of this year.
