Trina Solar lands 25MW Thai order

Trina, China’s second largest supplier of PV modules, will supply the 25MW third phase of the 75MW Bangchak Solar Energy Project in Thailand, with shipments to begin within days.

“This is a significant module supply contract for Trina Solar in Thailand and demonstrates our continued commitment to delivering on our strategy of market diversification,” says Trina chief executive Jifan Gao.

The project is owned by a subsidiary of Bangchak, one of Thailand’s largest oil refiners and petrol retailers, with local construction firm Gunkul handling EPC work.

Thailand is expected to become one of the world’s top 10 largest PV markets in 2013 for the first time, adding about 700MW, according to market researcher IHS.

The Thai PV market – where Singapore-based REC Solar has also carved out a strong position – will grow another 14% next year, IHS predicts.

Last year Bangchak commissioned the 38MW Sunny Bangchak project in Ayutthaya province, which is one of the country’s largest existing PV arrays.
