China wants many more projects like the Xuzhou PV plant

China’s leadership has issued a strong statement of backing for its solar industry, with a plan to install at least 35GW of PV by 2015.

The State Council – the country’s cabinet – has set an annual installation target of 10GW for the next three years, it said in a statement.

The 35GW goal was mooted in China earlier this year, but has now received the endorsement of its top administrative body.

China currently has about 8GW of PV in place. As recently as August 2012 the target was set at 21GW, itself a 40% boost on the previous official goal, moves seen as providing some relief to the nation’s beleaguered PV manufacturers.
